Pointe 1/2B

Pointe 1/2 is part of the Intensive Division Program. The class is for the beginner being introduced to pointe work or moving into their second year.  In this class the primary focus will be on barre excercises to strengthen the foot and ankle thereby facilitating a smooth roll up and down in relevé in pointe and demi pointe.  Center work incorporating basic ballet steps and movement will be added later in the class.  Proper progression in this class is important to prevent injuries.  Attendance is extremely important in beginning pointe to help with muscle retention.

This class has a required curriculum which includes 2 ballet classes a week, 2 pointe classes, as well as enrichment classes in modern and jazz technique. Additional enrichment classes available include Hip Hop, Tap and Acro. Dancers must be at least 12 to 18 years old to be enrolled in this class.

The IDP syllabus is designed to properly prepare the serious student in a logical and safe progression of skills. Although each dancer progresses differently, successful completion of this class can take as long as 2 years.
